Charles Wei Liu began his career in China at the Beijing Technical School of Instrument Making at the age of sixteen. He earned his degree of Luthier from the Violin Making School of America in 1997 and worked two years restoring instruments at Peter Paul Prier & Sons Violins. Nationally recognized for his work, Charles Liu distributes to dealers around the country.

Charles Wei Liu's student instruments represent the cutting edge of the recent movement of commercial violin making in China. Professional musicians are finding more and more that China is producing some the most desirable string instruments on the international market. Mr. Liu's own factory in Beijing is where "white" instruments are built by expert craftsman. Later the instruments are varnished, completed and set up in Charles Wei Liu's shop in Salt Lake City, Utah, giving these instruments a warm, mellow, handcrafted tone. Student models start at $495.00, Step-up models at $995.00, and for the advanced student the $1800.00 one-piece back model is a great value.

Rentals start at $12.00 per month. All rentals and student models come with Brazilwood bows, corduva covered cases plus accessories. As well as Charles Wei Liu hand made instruments for professionals and pre-professionals, we now carry the Johannes Schulz violins- an antiqued German instrument for the advanced player with a mid range price of $2600.00 ($3995.00 retail value), and the similarly priced Joseph Satriani antiqued instruments. The shop also has a growing collection of restored Italian, French, and German instruments. Ranging in price up to approx. $100,000.

We recently built an extension (500 square feet) to our existing building (3,600 square feet) making our total retail and shop space over 4,000 square feet! We are very excited to have one of the best shops in the United States.
