David Folland, Salt Lake City 1983
Featured Instrument This fine contemporary American viola was made by David Folland in 1983, the year he graduated from the Violinmaking School of America in Salt Lake City. At 16”, it delivers a great body of sound but has some of the best playability and response of any of the violas currently available in our shop. Tonally, it has a lovely depth and sonority to the low end and a brilliance in the higher registers while being smooth throughout. It features lovely workmanship and materials throughout and a spectacular varnish. It is definitely a favorite among our staff of players and is suited to the advanced student, teacher or professional violist. Available Now |
Alfredo Primavera, Cremona 1978
Featured Instrument This Viola made by Alfredo Primavera in Cremona, Italy, boasts a bright and powerful sound with many complex overtones. It features impeccable craftsmanship with crisp, clean edgework and a lovely translucent and supple varnish. It is comfortable for having body length of 16.5”. We had previously sold this viola many years ago and are pleased to offer it again. It would suit a highly advanced or professional player and is everything one might hope for in an instrument made in the hometown of the Stradivari, Guarneri and Amati families. Available Now |
Lawrence Furse, Salt Lake City 2019
Featured Instrument This beautiful contemporary American viola was made by Lawrence Furse. At 16 1/2”, it delivers a massive, deep and resonant sound. Furse has been making instruments of the violin family for over four decades and it’s surprising that his work is not more well known outside of the Salt Lake area. This instrument is charmingly rugged in appearance and solidly reliable. It would make a great companion to the advanced student, teacher or professional. Available Now |
